Museum of Motherhood

Announcing Carol Evans To Join Motherhood Foundation Board

There are ……Wax museums, Dinosaur museums, Car Museums, Almanac Museums, Children’s Museums, Flower Museums, Ukrainian Modern Arts Museums, Slavery Museums, Doll Museums, Miniature Museums, Johnny Appleseed Museums, Bathtub Museums, Band Instrument Museums, Bead Museums, Aerospace Museums, Money Museums…. But there is NO ‘Museum Of Motherhood’.

We are the first and only facility of its kind. We started in Dobbs Ferry, as an organization devoted to educating the world about the contributions of mothers both historically and in contemporary culture.

The concept for M.O.M. originated with Gillian Crane, who’s a good friend and a member of the Motherhood Foundation Board. She suggested to me, back in 1999  that we needed a Museum of our own.

This first-ever exhibit was conceived and executed with books, ephemera, mom-made objects and general information about the cultural standing of mothers in North America in my ‘Mommy Girl Go-Go’ storefront on Main St in 2003 and remained in place through 2005…. We’ve taken slow steady steps in the direction of our dreams.

Our goals are to fill a longstanding void by focusing on the many roles of mothers throughout history with our physical and virtual library, exhibit facility, traveling productions, and resource center. We honor the many unsung heroes as well as the famous and great and share their remarkable stories. There are all kinds of mothers: stepmothers, adoptive mothers, single mothers, divorced mothers and mothers who’ve successfully navigated married life. The Museum of Motherhood is the house that is home to all their stories.

And that’s why, with your help, in 2011 we want to bring our virtual location to a real and significant structure of our very own. We have found a beautiful historic home in Seneca Falls, NY – Home of the Women’s Suffragette Movement and current home of the Women’s Hall Of Fame.
